LANDON, of New Haven [Vermont], was born 14 December 1845 in New Haven [Addison County, Vermont], son of Elisha H. and Charlotte (HOYT) LANDON. Received his education at Beeman Academy in New Haven, and Black River Academy at Ludlow [Windsor County, Vermont]. Has always been a practical farmer and dealer in young stock; has made a specialty of the dairy business, breeding Durham cows to quite an extent; has a well laid out and productive farm; and is one of the successful farmers of Vermont. Republican; has held many town offices, including selectman, lister and justice of the peace, which last position he has held for many years past; represented his own in the legislature of 1886; served on the committee on the grand list; made a conservative record, and reflected credit upon the place of his nativity. Is a Free Mason; affiliated with Libanos Lodge No. 47. Has been a member of the Congregational church since 1868; has held for many years the position of treasurer of the society, and served as chairman of the building committee of the beautiful church recently erected in New Haven. Is a man of energy and unquestioned integrity. Is yet in the prime of life, and has a career in the future as one of the leading men of his town and county. On 25 February 1868 he [Mills J. LANDON] married Harriet L., daughter of Deacon Oliver and Louisa DEXTER, of Windham County [Vermont]; of this marriage three children survive: Charlotta L., Mary Ann F., and Ralph Dexter.
