JEWETT was born 13 June 1810 in Weybridge [Addison County, Vermont, son of Samuel and Lucy (HUNGERFORD) JEWETT]; graduated at Middlebury College in 1834. In 1836 he became a lawyer in Niles [Berrien County], Michigan, and is still there. He has been prosecuting attorney for his county four years, and became judge of the county court in 1847. [On 11 January 1836 in Niles, Berrien County, Michigan, Charles W. JEWETT married Catharine Charlotte SCOVELL; they had the following children: Edwin S., Edward S., Ada A.; Charles, who died in infancy; and Charles, the second of that name.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
