Addison ELDREDGE, Loyal D. Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 120 Loyal D. ELDREDGE, Of Middlebury [Addison County, Vermont], was born 05 February 1831 at Stockholm [St. Lawrence County], New York, son of Julius and Polly (COWLES) ELDREDGE. At the completion of his preparatory studies he graduated at Middlebury College in 1857 and was admitted to the bar in 1859. Practiced his profession at Alburgh Springs [Grand Isle County, Vermont] for three years and was elected state's attorney for Grand Isle County in 1861 and 1862. In 1862 removed to Middlebury, and has resided there ever since, devoting himself to the practice of law and other avocations. From 1864 to 1870 held the office of assistant assessor of internal revenue, and deputy collector, and in 1870 was appointed first deputy collector of internal revenue of the District of Vermont; elected to the state Senate in 1876; member of the lower house in 1888; six years prior to this period he was made a trustee of Middlebury College and in 1884 treasurer of that institution; holds both of these offices at the present time. On 29 July 1858 Hon. Loyal D. ELDREDGE married Wealthy A., daughter of Ralph and Martha (KNEELAND) PARKER, of Waterbury [Washington County, Vermont]. One daughter was the fruit of this union: Julia A. (Mrs. C. G. LEAVENWORTH), of Cleveland [Cuyahoga County], Ohio. Submitted By Cathy Kubly
