He received his preparatory education at Beeman Academy, New Haven [Addison County, Vermont]; B. S. from Middlebury College in 1893. Studied law with Hon. Seneca HASELTON, Burlington [Chittenden County, Vermont], and was admitted to the bar in 1896. Has been engaged in the practice of law at Middlebury since 1899. Republican, was states attorney for Addison County from 1900 to 1904, and a member of the Vermont Senate 1908, a member of the judiciary committee, revision, rules, and chairman of the committee on corporations; attorney for the town of Middlebury. Member of the Masonic fraternity, Knights of Pythias, and Delta Upsilon fraternity. In 1901 Mr. [James Bernard] DONOWAY married [Miss?] Estelle Lou KINNEY [full given name probably Estelle Louella] of South Hero [Grand Isle County, Vermont]; they have two children: Marion Estelle and Frances Ellen.
