BURNS, superintendent marble mill, Middlebury [Addison County, Vermont], was born 28 February 1863 in Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, son of Bernard J. and Katherine (FLANNAGAN) BURNS. Educated at public schools of Rutland. At an early age apprenticed to the trade of cutting and grading marble; later entered the employ of the Brandon Italian Marble Company; superintendent of the mill and yards of the Brandon Company since 1885, with the exception of two years 1898-1890, when the mills were burned and rebuilt. Republican; town grand juror seven years in Brandon [Rutland County]; selectman in Middlebury since 1902; justice of the peace and chairman of the board of trustees, village of Middlebury. Member St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church; grand knight in the local council Knights of Columbus. In 1887 he [Thomas F. BURNS] married [Miss?] Katherine McCORMICK, of West Rutland [Rutland County, Vermont]; they had five children: Bernard J., Edward D. (deceased), Mary Irene, Rose Genevieve, and Daniel.
