WI BIO - Adams Co - RODGERS, Alexander Commemorative and Biographical Record of Columbia, Sauk and Adams Counties, Wisconsin. Chicago: Ogle, 1901, p 518 Alexander RODGERS, one of Adams County's most successful agriculturalists, whose pleasant home is situated in Jackson Township, Adams County, Wisconsin, was born 19 March 1852 in Moundville Township, Marquette County, Wisconsin, son of John and Margaret (GILLER) RODGERS, who were born in Scotland. The father [John RODGERS], a typical Scotchman, was born 15 April 1819 in Markinch parish, Fifeshire, Scotland. He came to America in 1849, settling at Fox Lake [Fox Lake Township borders on Columbia County, Wisconsin, this township being in the northwest corner of Dodge County, Wisconsin], and later in Marquette County, where he [John RODGERS] died 31 January 1891, at the age of 72 years. He was a very successful farmer, and a member of the Scotch Presbyterian church. Our subject's mother [Margaret (GILLER) RODGERS] died [1888?] about three years before the death of her husband. Alexander RODGERS was reared to manhood in Marquette County [Wisconsin]. In 1879 he purchased his present homestead farm, in Adams County [Wisconsin], and is now the owner of 200 acres of the best land in the county, well improved and enhanced in value by the addition of many modern conveniences of rural life, including a large and commodious residence, erected in 1885. He gives considerable attention to livestock, and has made farming a success. On 13 December 1877 Mr. [Alexander RODGERS] was married to [Miss] Eliza M. ROUND, daughter of Rev. Almon L. and Henrietta (CLARK) ROUND, born 04 March 1853 at Fort Winnebago [Columbia County], Wisconsin. She taught school several years in Columbia and Marquette Counties. Her [Eliza ROUND's] father [Rev. Almon L. ROUND] was born in Taunton [Bristol County], Massachusetts, and was a Baptist minister. He came to Wisconsin in 1850, and preached some years in Marcellon [Marcellon Township borders on Marquette County] and elsewhere in Columbia County, Wisconsin. He [Rev. Almon L. ROUND] died 20 March 1880 in Marquette County [Wisconsin], aged fifty-nine years. His wife [Henrietta (CLARK) BROWN] was born in Willett, Cortland County, New York, and is still living at the age of sixty-seven. Mr. and Mrs. RODGERS [Alexander and Eliza M. (ROUND) RODGERS] are the parents of five children, who, named in order of birth are: (1) Carrie, now Mrs. Fred GORSLINE, of Buffalo Township, Marquette County [Wisconsin]; (2) John; (3) Ray; (4) Almon; and (5) Margaret. Mr. and Mrs. RODGERS [Alexander and Eliza M. (ROUND) RODGERS] and their daughter Carrie are members of the Presbyterian church at Oxford [in Marquette County, Wisconsin, Oxford Township bordering on Adams County], where the family worships. Their home is one of refinement and culture. Mr. RODGERS has turned his success in his calling to the providing of those means of education and refinement so rarely found in country homes, and it is difficult to estimate the great influence for enlightenment and good exerted by such homes in advancing the better interests of the community where they are found. Mr. RODGERS is a member of the Oxford Camp, Modern Woodmen of America. He has been a lifelong Republican, but has never sought political preferment. He is held in high respect and esteem by the entire community in which he resides. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
