Chicago: Ogle, 1901, pp 538-539 Thomas REYNOLDS, deceased, an influential and respected citizen of Adams County, Wisconsin, who had transformed a wilderness into a pleasant home and at the time of his death was well-to-do, was born 08 August 1816 in West Felton, Shropshire, England. He received a fair education and about 1853 came to the United States and lived for six years in Willoughby [Lake County], Ohio. From thence he came to Wisconsin, settling in Springville Township, Adams County, where he spent the remainder of his life, resided in Springville Township for nearly forty years, thirty years on one farm. Mr. [Thomas] REYNOLDS was married in England; his first wife, who died there, left one daughter, Libbie, now Mrs. Theodore CUMMINGS, of Point Bluff [Springville Township], Adams County [Wisconsin]. In 1846 Mr. [Thomas] REYNOLDS married [Miss?] Bessie MEREDITH [his second wife], who was born in Shropshire, England. Mr. and Mrs. REYNOLDS [Thomas and Bessie REYNOLDS] were the parents of three children who reached maturity: (1) William Henry, who died 14 October 1898, aged 43 years; (2) George E.; and (3) Andrew T. Mr. [Thomas] REYNOLDS died on 12 January 1896 in Springville Township, Adams County, Wisconsin, and his wife [Mrs. Bessie REYNOLDS] survived him but one year, passing away 27 February 1897, aged 79 years. Both were consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal church, and Mr. REYNOLDS took an active part in the affairs of that denomination. He was a Republican in political sentiment, but was of a retiring disposition and did not seek public favor. He was a gentleman of sterling qualities, and left a large circle of friends to mourn for him. George E. REYNOLDS was born 01 February 1858 in Willoughby [Lake County], Ohio. He came to Wisconsin with his parents when he was but one year of age, and has been a resident of Adams County since that time. He gained a liberal education, attending the district school, and at the county institute began teaching at the age of eighteen years, following that vocation for several years. In 1890 he [George E. REYNOLDS] was elected county Superintendent, on the Republican ticket. He organized the first summer school for teachers in Adams County, and continued the same annually, thereby adding greatly to the educational standard of Adams County. On 11 November 1885 George E. REYNOLDS was married to Mary BACON, daughter of David N. and Caroline BACON, of Point Bluff [Adams County], Wisconsin. [See also the Adams County, Wisconsin, biography of David Noah BACON.] Mrs. Mary REYNOLDS was born at White Creek, Adams County, Wisconsin. Two children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. REYNOLDS [to George F. and Mary REYNOLDS]: Bessie and Glenn David. Mr. REYHOLDS has [p 539] filled the office of auditor, clerk and chairman of Springville Township, has gained the confidence of the people of his community, is a gentleman of refined and marked literary ability, and contributes to numerous publications. Andrew T. REYNOLDS was born 04 November 1859 in Springville Township, Adams County, Wisconsin. Since reaching his majority he has with much success followed the calling of an agriculturalist. In 1864 [Andrew T. REYNOLDS] in company with his brother, George E. [REYNOLDS], purchased part of his present farm on Section 27, Springville Township, and the brothers now own 320 acres, all of which was wild land when they purchased it; 110 acres have been cleared for cultivation, and on the estate they now have erected substantial and convenient buildings, and added other improvements, and aside from general farming are interested in the raising of horses, and have some choice specimens.
